Sprinto review: the cheaper option

Sprinto is the platform to get a quote from when the budget is the constraint. It does the core job, it consistently prices below the larger vendors at small headcounts, and what you give up sits mostly outside the audit itself.

Sprinto is worth getting a quote from if you are under about fifty staff, doing a first SOC 2, and the platform line in your budget is under pressure. It typically quotes 25 to 40 percent below Vanta and Drata at that size, which for a Canadian company is $6,000 to $12,000 CAD a year under 25 staff. It is the weaker choice if questionnaire automation is what you are buying, or if you need deep control customisation.

What you get for the lower price

The same core loop. Connect cloud and identity systems, run continuous checks, track policies and training, hold evidence for the auditor. For a single-framework SOC 2 at a small company, that loop is most of the value of any platform in this category, and Sprinto runs it.

A workflow that suits people doing this for the first time. The product is task-driven: it tells you what to do next rather than presenting a control library and leaving you to interpret it. For a founder or a first engineering hire running compliance alongside another job, that is worth more than configuration depth they would not use.

A negotiating position. Even if you end up buying Vanta or Drata, a written Sprinto quote is the single most effective thing you can put in front of either of them. Both discount against a competing quote more reliably than against any other argument.

What you give up

Questionnaire and trust page tooling. Vanta's is the most developed in the category and this is where the difference is most visible. If your sales team spends days a month on security questionnaires, Sprinto addresses that less directly. Work out which problem you are buying before you compare prices.

Control customisation. For a standard SaaS architecture this does not bite. For a company with unusual infrastructure, a control model that does not quite describe what you do means more manual evidence and more explaining during fieldwork. Drata is the answer to that.

Integration coverage at the edges. Mainstream cloud, identity and code hosting are covered. The further from that your stack sits, the more likely something on your list needs manual evidence. Get the integration list checked against your own systems during the trial rather than taking it from a feature grid.

Test the integration list with your real account

Run the trial against your production cloud account, not a demo tenant. The number of checks failing on day one is your remediation backlog, and the list of systems the platform could not read is the manual evidence you just agreed to collect for a year.

Canadian considerations

Sprinto is a foreign vendor and your data is processed outside Canada, so the same rules apply as to every platform in this category. PIPEDA permits the transfer while keeping accountability with you, which means contractual protection and a privacy notice that reflects it. Quebec's Law 25 requires an assessment of the transfer before personal information leaves the province, and connecting an HR system counts. The category page covers that ground for all of the platforms at once.

Ask for Canadian dollar pricing. Smaller vendors are often more flexible on currency and on contract terms than the larger ones.

What Sprinto costs in Canada

Sprinto annual subscription, CAD, single framework
HeadcountTypical annual costVanta or Drata for comparison
Under 25$6,000 to $12,000$8,000 to $18,000
25 to 100$10,000 to $22,000$15,000 to $30,000
Over 100$20,000 to $40,000$30,000 to $60,000

No vendor in this category publishes a rate card, so these are observed bands for Canadian buyers. The gap narrows above 100 staff, which is why the case for Sprinto is strongest at small headcount.

Who should buy it, and who should not

Buy it if you are under fifty staff, running one framework, doing this for the first time, and the platform budget is tight. The report is identical whichever platform produced the evidence.

Do not buy it if questionnaire automation is the real purchase, if your architecture needs controls modelled precisely, or if you are under twenty staff with a single cloud account and no deal waiting, in which case no platform at all is still the cheapest correct answer.

Common questions

Is Sprinto as good as Vanta or Drata?

For the core job of collecting SOC 2 evidence at a small company, it is competitive and cheaper. It is behind Vanta on questionnaire and trust page tooling and behind Drata on control customisation. Whether that matters depends on which of those problems you are buying a platform to solve.

How much does Sprinto cost in Canadian dollars?

Commonly $6,000 to $12,000 CAD a year under 25 staff and $10,000 to $22,000 CAD between 25 and 100 for one framework, which is roughly 25 to 40 percent under the larger vendors at those sizes. Pricing is per employee on an annual term.

Will an auditor accept evidence collected in Sprinto?

Yes. Auditors care that evidence is dated, attributable to a source system and covers the whole observation period, not which vendor's logo is on the interface. Confirm your chosen firm has worked in it before, since a firm familiar with the platform moves faster than one learning it during your audit.

Should we use Sprinto just to get a cheaper quote from Vanta?

Getting a written quote from a lower-priced vendor is normal practice and both larger vendors discount against one. Do it because you would genuinely consider the alternative, since a bluff you would not follow through on tends to be priced accordingly.
